Comparison: Plastic vs. Metal Fencing

Plastic Fencing vs Metal Fencing: What’s The Difference?

Choosing the fence for your property is a big decision. It’s not just about the look and feel of the fence, it also has to be functional. Here are four important things you need to know before you buy:

What type of material do you want? Do you want something more affordable or will cost affectation play a role in your decision-making process? If so, consider that metal fences might be less expensive than plastic ones because they require less maintenance over time. For example, if there is an issue with an electrical line running near the fence, metal will be much easier to repair than plastic fencing would.

On the other side, plastic fencing is better when it comes to privacy. It is much more difficult to see into someone’s yard if they have an all-plastic fence than it would be with a metal one, especially when you are on the other side of their property.

Plastic Fencing

Do you want something that blends in well or do you want your neighbors to know who lives next door? A clear plastic fence will let everyone know exactly which house belongs to whom whereas a steel fence can be painted any color imaginable and no one will ever really notice.

How high should it go up? You’ll need to decide how tall you want your fence to be. For example, the standard height for a privacy fence is six feet tall.

What type of fencing do you want? There are several types of fences that may work well on your property: wood, chain-link, aluminum or vinyl. You’ll need to figure out which one will best suit your needs and budget based on factors like what it’s protecting from (animals?), cost and maintenance requirements

Do you have any special requests? If so, make sure that these get communicated with whoever installs the fence for you because they can likely provide some customization options as needed
